Michigan Economic Development Corporation
LEAP, Inc. is the economic development organization proudly representing the tri-county region of Ingham, Clinton and Eaton counties in partnership with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.
The Collaborative Development Council (CDC) is a partnership between local and regional economic development agencies and MEDC. The Council’s purpose is to provide strategic direction and programmatic input to the MEDC senior leadership team. This working group is intended to help advance the state of Michigan’s economic development through strengthening relationships, leveraging assets and improving communication flow and project management between the MEDC and local partners.
CDC members each represent a region of the state. Ten regions were developed by local partners in an effort to align state resource providers. The CDC member convenes regional meetings and provides support to communities within the region as appropriate. This regional alignment ensures that companies don’t receive multiple visits from various service providers, it eliminates duplication of services, and provides a more effective/efficient access to resources. MEDC Business Development Managers, who work on Michigan retention and growth projects, are hoteled at CDC member offices. This hoteling arrangement will further improve the relationship between the MEDC and the local partner. The BDM will have the opportunity to learn more about the regions assets and will be better able to provide seamless service delivery to the regional business community.
The MEDC has been championing the realignment of key service providers to match our regional model. Initial alignment has been completed for our Business Development Managers, Community Assistance Team, Urban Team, Project Management Team, Small Business Technology Development Centers, Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center and Michigan Department of Transportation. As these regional teams develop, the service providers will be meeting monthly to educate each other on the mission of their agencies in an effort to broaden the knowledge base of all team members.
