New aerospace manufacturer locates to Mason

Posted: November 02, 2012 - 8:10 AM

VEVAY TWP. — Executives with a new aerospace manufacturer say they hope to create between two and three dozen jobs over the next two years.

APEX Precision Solutions Inc. was founded this spring and recently moved into its headquarters at 4200 Legion Drive near Mason.

The leased site of about 5,000 square feet will allow the startup company to increase production.

To give the firm a home and a financial boost, the company received support from the Lansing Economic Area Partnership and other regional economic development groups.

“Our company is on a strong trajectory and we are appreciative of the assistance we have received to reach our goals,” APEX president and CEO Matthew Rudd said.

The Small Business Technology Development Center, through LEAP, gave APEX $20,000 to implement quality control certifications for its production. APEX would not discuss financial details, including startup costs.

The SBTDC also helped by raising funds so APEX could purchase equipment for its new office, Rudd said.

The company has nine employees. As it expands, Rudd said APEX will aim to hire skilled machinists, programmers and equipment operators.

Regional economic development officials praised the company for making its home in Lansing.

“They could have started this business anywhere, and we’re very lucky they chose the Lansing region,” said Tom Donaldson, regional director of SBTDC.

APEX designs, develops and manufactures tooling, gauges, fixtures and other components for the aerospace industry.
