Lansing Region Leaps 30 Spots in the Nation as 'Best Performing City'

Posted: January 17, 2013 - 4:30 PM

LANSING, MI – It was announced today that the Lansing region has climbed the rankings from 150 to 120 for the Nation’s Best Performing Cities by the Milken Institute, a highly respected nonpartisan economic think tank based in California. The Lansing region is among the top in Michigan, leading the State in economic recovery, while nationally just ahead of Jacksonville, Orlando, and Chicago.

Nationwide, the return of technology clusters accounts for some of the growth within the large cities. Additionally, ‘the resurgence of business investment in equipment, especially information technology and software, has been the unheralded story of this recovery’.

“The evidence continues to mount that the Lansing/East Lansing region is rapidly changing into a global economic powerhouse,” said Bob Trezise, President and CEO of the Lansing Economic Area Partnership (LEAP). “We expect to be at the top of these lists now, so we are not surprised by our continued job and investment growth numbers. And 2013 promises to be an even bigger year for our region.”

More information and a copy of the full report can be found on the Milken Institute’s website.
