$10,000 LEAP Public Art for Communities Grant Contributes to Massive Public Sculpture at Capital Region International Airport

Gateway to Inclusion Sculpture Transforms First Impression of Lansing Region for Global Audience

LANSING, Mich. – Home to an international airport hub, the Lansing region is a portal to the state of Michigan for people and businesses from across the world. Tuesday, a new impressive public art piece was unveiled along Capital City Boulevard dramatically improving a critical first impression gateway to the Lansing region, welcoming travelers and residents alike. The nearly quarter million dollar installation, “Gateway to Inclusion,” was led by Peckham in partnership with the Capital Region International Airport and was funded by many private and public partners including a grant from the Lansing Economic Area Partnership’s (LEAP) Public Art for Communities (PAFC) grant program in partnership with PNC Foundation.

“Gateway to Inclusion is a prime example of what LEAP’s PAFC program was intended to inspire and achieve,” said Bob Trezise, president and CEO of LEAP. “LEAP is proud to be part of what is sure to become another prominent and iconic landmark in the region—a beautiful global beacon inviting businesses and people from around the world to set roots in the Lansing region.”

Since 2012, LEAP has invested $240,000 in a growing collection of strategically placed, permanent, public art throughout the Tri-county region, with the PNC Foundation as a strong supporter. The PNC Foundation began contributing $10,000 annually to the program each year in 2015, which helped expand the program and number of pieces funded each year.

“PNC’s ongoing support of LEAP’s public art grant program reflects our Main Street values and commitment to the communities where we conduct business,” said Timothy Salisbury, PNC regional president for mid-Michigan. “This program is an example of what can be accomplished through strong public-private partnerships.”

Applications for LEAP’s 2020 grant program opened Oct. 9 and will be accepted until Jan. 31, 2020. Submission guidelines, eligibility and criteria, including the policy guideline template and the RFP, can be found on LEAP’s website.
