What is your business/idea?
Jubilee is a network where people that are trying to make positive changes in their life can plug in and find the support they need. We plan to have two different and distinct business operations. As a home care agency, we will provide in-home care and support in the community for senior citizens, people with developmental disabilities, and others in need of assistance. As a property management company, Jubilee will manage properties designated for people with low-incomes that receive rent subsidies. Through our network, our tenants and employees will have access to transformative relationships and opportunities. Employees and tenants that participate in these activities will earn significant incentives.
What inspired you to start a business?
In my early 30’s, life took a turn for the worse. I made some poor choices regarding the company I kept and social environments I placed myself in. Eventually, I found myself struggling with hard drugs and an abusive relationship with a dangerous person. As I tried to improve my life, I learned that I couldn’t make effective change happen on my own. I sought help for my intense mental and emotional issues from several programs, agencies and organizations. None of those roads led to effective support. I’m an intelligent and capable person and I was dedicated and committed to changing my life. If it was that hard for me to find effective support, it must be doubly hard for people that aren’t as capable or committed. Our community needs to provide more options that effectively address mental, emotional, and substance abuse issues. The vision of Jubilee is inspired by this great need juxtaposed with a severe lack of effective solutions.
How did you get to the point you are today with this business/idea?
I’ve gotten to this point by building relationships and therefore a network of people that are supportive of these ideas and ready to invest their time, talent, and other resources to implement them. Additionally, my team and I have built a unique annual event that supports our mission and grows every year.
What is your vision for the future of your business?
Ultimately I hope and pray that Jubilee grows into something that significantly impacts disadvantaged community members by providing them with easy access to transformative relationships and other opportunities.
What goals do you hope the One and All program will help you achieve?
I have three main goals that I hope the One&All program will help me achieve. I’d like to learn more about the process of becoming established as a 501c3 federal non-profit. I’d also like help with establishing our leadership structure and writing our by-laws.
