International Luxury Tea Company Opens North American Office in East Lansing

LANSING, Mich. – International luxury tea company, Newby Teas of London hosted an inaugural reception at the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum in East Lansing last night, welcoming over 100 regional leaders, industry professionals, and Michigan State University representatives.

Raji Singh, Brand Ambassador, Newby Teas, (BA ’14) Michigan State University had the opportunity to work for the international luxury tea company in London, with branch offices in 12 countries after her graduation in 2014. Singh worked with senior administrators at Michigan State University, and community leaders outlining the company’s mission and long-term plans including growing their brand presence in North America, South America and the Caribbean, and several opportunities to collaborate with Michigan State University and Michigan based businesses, with regard to educating and training future talent, procurement of services, and later for research. Envisioning a return home, while training in London last year, Ms. Singh started a conversation with resources the Lansing region, specifically MSU Product Center, Lansing Economic Area Partnership (LEAP), the City of East Lansing, SBDC Michigan, and others. The strong involvement of these organizations contributed to the company’s decision to base their office adjacent to Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan.

Last night, Ms. Singh shared her story and Newby’s planned North American journey. Other speakers welcoming the company to the community included Mr. Mark Meadows, the Mayor of the City of East Lansing, and Mr. Bob Trezise, President and CEO of LEAP and Dr. Charles Hasemann Vice President of Innovation and Economic Development at the Michigan State University Innovation Center.
