Meet the Interns: Madalyn Dessy

My name is Madalyn Dessy and I am a senior at Michigan State University, studying Environmental Economics and Management. I am from Rochester Hills, Michigan, but spend most of my free time in Glen Arbor, Michigan, a place my family loves to visit. Outside of work and school, I enjoy running, hiking, biking, cooking, spending time with my friends and family, or just about any activity that keeps me outdoors!

I will be joining LEAP this fall as the One and All program Intern, which I am incredibly excited for! Being an Environmental Economics and Management major, I study economic development, or sustainable ways to grow economies, so I am very eager to learn about local economic development in Lansing. As the One and All Intern, one of my projects will be conducting interviews with One and All program mentors, participants, and partners to gather feedback, pain points, and opportunities for improvement. I am very intrigued by this specific project since it will help give me the opportunity to speak with participants directly, learning how this amazing program helped them achieve their career and business goals.

Following this internship and upon graduating in the spring, I ultimately hope to get a career in consulting in the environmental field. As a consultant, I aim to help organizations reach their economic development goals all while remaining environmentally sustainable. Sustainability is a major passion of mine and I find developing new sustainable business practices to be incredibly interesting and beneficial to our future! I feel as if this internship with LEAP will help me gain more experience in economic development and how communities can help individuals living at, or below, the ALICE threshold begin their entrepreneurship journey. I am beyond eager to work on this project with LEAP and I look forward to meeting so many of you!
