What is Socialight Society?
Have you heard about Socialight Society?
This Black owned bookstore is the perfect place to find titles written about, for, and by Black authors! Socialight Society is the brain child of Nyshell Lawrence, an alumni of LEAP’s One and All Program Five, who found a lack of representation of Black authors in other book stores and decided to change that. Lawrence incorporates prominent Black women into the foundation of her business model— creating a space that highlights Black women and Black literature. As a graduate of One and All, Lawrence was connected to the LEAP network and to the entrepreneur eco-system, helping in her trajectory to open a brick-and-mortar store in the Lansing mall.
Located in the Lansing Mall, Socialight Society doubles as a bookstore and community space for events, readings, book clubs, and children’s story time. Interested in getting involved? Socialight Society is partnering with local organizations for the 3rd annual Black Book Drive for the entire month of February. Come in to the store to donate books or contribute with funds that allow organizers to bring books to children in the Lansing Region!
Visit Socialight Society ASAP for a great experience in a beautiful spot, and make sure to follow Nyshell Lawrence on Facebook and InstagramÂ
