Anum started her journey with LEAP in January 2018 as an apprentice, where she played a key role in developing LEAP’s social media strategy. In summer of 2018, Anum joined the LEAP team full-time as part of the the Business Development team and managed the City of Lansing’s Corridor Façade Program, Opportunity Zones and Corridor Improvement Authority Boards. Nationally recognized for her efforts, Anum successfully led the City of Lansing's Opportunity Zones initiative. She developed the blueprint of OZ Investment Prospectus and Stakeholder Network while serving as the conduit for City of Lansing.
Anum has been instrumental in the revival of Corridor Improvement Authority (CIA) boards for Michigan Avenue and Saginaw Street. She brought together a strong board, revised Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Plans and achieved approval from the Lansing City Council. The success also led to approval by City Council to create of two new CIA boards for North Grand River Avenue and South Martin Luther King Boulevard.
In fall of 2019, Anum joined the New Economy Division as Manager of New Ventures and PROTO Accelerator Program Architect. In her current role, Anum oversees programs and initiatives to support and advance the entrepreneurship ecosystem in the region. She makes an intentional effort to empower entrepreneurs by connecting them with the right mentors, advisors and investors to refine their raw ideas into progressive companies. Anum also assists with the PROTO InsurTech program, which is the first partnership of its kind between Michigan’s insurance industry and the global startup community.
Passion for facilitating economic growth is not new to Anum. Anum also works with Startup Grind Lansing as a Community Relations and Marketing Director, where her efforts help the local chapter host entrepreneurs for monthly fireside chats. An entrepreneur herself, Anum ran a clothing boutique in Karachi, Pakistan before emigrating to the United States in fall of 2017. Anum also co-founded a 3D Projection Mapping startup in Pakistan. Anum believes in developing an ecosystem based on collaborations of inclusive solutions with diverse perspectives to instill innovation.
Anum holds a bachelor's degree in Business and an MBA in Management and Marketing from a top-ranked business school in Pakistan. Anum is a Certified Mentor Program Manager and a Certified Tourist Ambassador (CTA). In her free time, Anum advises startups on their business strategy and enjoys trying new cuisines and exploring historic neighborhoods with her husband, Shay.
