About Casandra

What is your business/idea?

Grateful Heart Gardens will be creating and facilitating earth saving soil generation practices through compost programs with restaurants apartment complexes. We want to grow hope through soil.

What inspired you to start a business?

The devastating news that our access to seeds and soil would be restricted during the time of covid when grocery stores were still able to sell liquor and lotto but were running out of food was absolutely gutting me. We need to help our community create circular food systems by resetting the way we think about the whole concept of markets.

How did you get to the point you are today with this business/idea?

I got to where I am by digging into the dirt and into the community. We got involved in the food pantries and mobile food distribution because we were fortunate enough to be in a position to do so. Seeing the needs we did what we could to help but quickly realized these solutions were only temporary and that people needed to change the way they thought about sustaining themselves.

What is your vision for the future of your business?

I want to bring compost making to every corner of Lansing and destroy food deserts all over the city. I want to free people from the idea that they need grocery stores to survive in the city. I need them to know that these systems are incompetent at best and unreliable.

What goals do you hope the One and All program will help you achieve?

I need help creating a proper business plan so that people can understand how vital soil creation and circular food systems are.
