About Ramon
I’m Ramon Vela, the owner of Snow Stars, the first authentic block shave ice business in Mid-Michigan. I started this business not just to bring something new to the area, but to create a life where I could be present for my daughter, who inspired the name. My goal is to grow Snow Stars into a brick-and-mortar location within the next five years while staying connected to my community through local events, Hispanic Heritage celebrations, and giving back whenever I can. More than just serving shave ice, I’m here to create experiences, build connections, and bring people together.
What inspired you to start a business?
I started Snow Stars because I wanted more than just a job—I wanted the freedom to be there for my daughter while building something of my own. I grew up with the experience of real block shave ice, and when I realized no one in Mid-Michigan was offering it, I saw an opportunity to bring something unique to the area. More than just a business, it’s about creating moments—whether it’s a family enjoying their first shave ice or giving back at community events. Snow Stars is my way of sharing a little joy while building a future for my daughter and myself.
What is your vision for the future of your business?
The vision for Snow Stars is to grow beyond the food truck and open a brick-and-mortar location as a central hub for authentic block shave ice in Mid-Michigan. I want it to be more than just a shop—I see it as a place where families, friends, and the community can come together, enjoy high-quality shave ice, and create lasting memories. Expanding the business also means upgrading equipment, enhancing the trailer, and finding ways to bring Snow Stars to more events and locations. Ultimately, my goal is to build a sustainable business that not only supports my family but also gives back to the community that has supported me from the start.
What goals do you hope the One and All program will help you achieve?
My goals for the one and all program, are to gain the skills and experience to further my business plans. To show me the proper way I should be running my business.
