What inspired you to start a business?

TheraPLAYoga was inspired by my experiences as a neurodivergent, mixed race, woman with physical disabilities, health conditions, and trauma; and experiences as a mom of a child who’s neurodivergent, with developmental disabilities, health conditions, and trauma. Inclusion, diversity, accessibility, and compassion are more than woke buzzwords to me. They are key to TheraPLAYoga (and my table-for-2-family).

How did you get to the point you are today with this business/idea?

I got to the point I am at today by having self-compassion, an inner knowing that *this* is my purpose, guidance from the best teachers- number 1 being my son, compassion- often from complete strangers, loving support from friends and family, and fierce encouragement from people who also advocate for a more loving and accepting Lansing community and world.

What is your vision for the future of your business?

One vision for the future of TheraPLAYoga is having my own brick and mortar studio. A safe, accessible space to welcome families and individuals of all ages- to explore personal growth, community care, and social change in Lansing and beyond.

What goals do you hope the One and All program will help you achieve?

I’m confident the One and All program will help me gain a better understanding of the financial aspect of entrepreneurship, provide me with a clearer path toward business planning and opportunities, and maybe even some guidance on starting a nonprofit branch of my LLC.

Is there anything else you would like to share about yourself or your business?

A bit of extra info about your girl- I’m the only registered children’s yoga teacher within 40 miles of Lansing. Aside from over 200 hours training in accessible yoga for adults, I have over 200 hours specialty training in trauma-sensitive, adaptive yoga for youth and individuals who experience neurodiversity, sensory processing disorder, pediatric cancer; and physical, mental, and developmental disabilities. Additionally, for individuals who are nonvocal or experience communication challenges, I also offer a yoga picture exchange communication system (PECS) to support their yoga practice while with me.
