Lansing Rocks the Runway
The Runway Lansing & Lansing Community College Celebrate Anniversary with Fashion Show and Afterglow Event
LANSING, Mich. – Downtown Lansing comes alive on Thursday, October 20, 2016, as The Runway Lansing and Lansing Community College (LCC) celebrate their one-year anniversary with a high-energy fashion show by Belle Row Boutique featuring their exclusive Fall 2016 collection.
The Runway Lansing, funded by the Lansing Economic Development Corporation (LEDC), was created in 2014 as Michigan’s premier fashion incubator. The Runway provides a creative space, education, programming and the necessary resources for fashion designers to form their business, allowing them the opportunity to produce their collections and ultimately move their product to market.
“The City of Lansing is proud to support the continued success of The Runway as we work together to create an exciting new industry in Lansing. The Runway is one of the many great things that makes Lansing such a unique place for individuals to express their artistic and creative talents, while helping us grow and diversify our local economy,” said Mayor Virg Bernero.
In 2015, The Runway and LCC partnered to bring fashion education, resources and tools needed to provide start-up assistance to entrepreneurs in the design industry. “Our partnership with the Runway is an opportunity to introduce students to the fashion and retail industry,” said LCC President Dr. Brent Knight. “The incubator provides them with a workshop and resources to help get their businesses off the ground.”
“The Runway Lansing exemplifies what a strong entrepreneurial ecosystem can do when creative energy and strong partnerships collide. Incubators play a big part in our local economy and LEAP’s New Economy Division (NED) is providing startups with the intellectual capital, contacts and resources to grow their business and ensure success,” said Bob Trezise, President & CEO of LEAP.
“The Runway continues to thrive in part to our many partnerships including our key sponsor, Foster, Swift, Collins and Smith, PC, who has provided legal services to members of the program, financial support and valuable guidance to Team Members. These strong collaborations are essential to the continued growth and success of The Runway,” said Joe Carr, Start-Up Incubation Manager, LEAP/The Runway Lansing.
“Lansing’s fashion retail profile is on the rise and we are showcasing that during Thursday’s event,” said Devon Bradley, owner of Belle Row Boutique. “The fashion show and events throughout the evening will highlight the importance of partnerships in branding the City of Lansing as an innovative destination for entrepreneurs.”
