Lansing Economic Area Partnership
LG Energy Solution, a global leader in battery technology, is making a historic investment in Delta Township, Lansing, Michigan. Originally announced in January 2022 as Ultium Cells — a joint venture between General Motors and LG Energy Solution — the project has transitioned fully under LG Energy Solution’s leadership.
The $2.6 billion, 2.8 million-square-foot facility is nearly complete and is expected to be fully operational in 2025. Once online, the plant will create up to 1,700 good jobs, significantly advancing Michigan’s leadership in electric vehicle (EV) battery manufacturing and the broader mobility supply chain.
This transition ensures that the Lansing region remains at the forefront of the EV revolution. LG Energy Solution’s deep expertise and long-standing presence in Michigan — including more than $3 billion already invested in its Holland facility — reinforce its commitment to the state and region.
Workforce Development: Lansing Community College (LCC) and Capital Area Michigan Works! (CAMW!) are actively training and recruiting nearly 2,000 workers to staff the facility.
Infrastructure Support: The Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL) and Delta Township have completed major infrastructure and utility improvements, ensuring sustainable operations.
Economic Growth: With average daily construction employment of 1,000 union tradespeople (peaking at 1,700 in 2024), the project represents one of the largest construction efforts in Michigan’s history.

LG Energy Solution’s decision to continue and expand the project highlights the Lansing region’s unmatched workforce, infrastructure, and collaborative spirit. The plant will produce some of the world’s most advanced batteries, supporting the electrification of vehicles and energy systems globally.
“This transition strengthens the Lansing region’s position as a leader in battery manufacturing, bringing increased investment, sustained job creation and a more diversified mobility ecosystem,” said Bob Trezise, president and CEO of LEAP.
