The Goal

Land a sustainable, effective battery cell manufacturer to support the EV supply chain in the USA — and secure the long-term commitment of a global battery technology leader to the Lansing region.

The Approach

How LEAP secured this project:

  • Workforce development— LCC and CAMW! Trained and recruited nearly 2,000 workers to staff the facility.
  • Infrastructure support — Lansing BWL and Delta Township completed major utility upgrades ahead of production.
  • Incentives secured — $120M in state SOAR funds plus $66.1M in SSRP grants administered by LEAP.
  • Public-private partnership — Revenue-sharing between Lansing and Delta Township, plus Lansing BWL electric rate incentives.

Long-Term Impact

LG Energy Solution's decision to continue and expand the project highlights the Lansing region's unmatched workforce, infrastructure, and collaborative spirit. The plant will produce some of the world's most advanced batteries, supporting the electrification of vehicles and energy systems globally — reinforced by LG's $3B+ existing investment in its Holland facility.

“This transition strengthens the Lansing region's position as a leader in battery manufacturing, bringing increased investment, sustained job creation and a more diversified mobility ecosystem.”
