Elevate is a comprehensive 6-month accelerator program that empowers, refines, enhances, and scales Black businesses. It offers individualized business assessments, customized workplan development, and one-on-one technical assistance.

LaTonya Demps LCSW, is a licensed therapist, certified trainer, and consultant. After many isolating professional experiences as a student, leader, and entrepreneur she founded Collective Wellness Counseling and Consulting (CWCC) to bridge the gap in providing safe, affirming, quality mental health care for everyone who reaches out for mental health support. CWCC is a group mental health practice that provides therapy, coaching, workshops, and consultation services to – individuals, couples, families, and businesses. CWCC offers in-person services locally and virtual therapy services across the state of Michigan. In addition to providing high-quality mental health, CWCC also focuses on meeting the counseling needs of Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC). BIPOC professionals often depend on community support, and connection to recover from professional stress and yet still face barriers when it comes to accessing quality mental health support and leadership development opportunities. By understanding the unique pressures, expectations, and identity conflicts professional people of color and students face- the Collective Wellness team of therapists hope to serve as a go-to for BIPOC professionals as a part of their village of support. Our vision is to nurture our clients whole selves beyond their career roles by providing a holistic ecosystem for sustainable growth, fulfillment, and collective community empowerment.

LaTonya was born and raised in Michigan. She has served as an adjunct professor, therapist, and researcher around issues related to self-compassion, perfectionism, and first-generation stress. She is a Certified Internal Family Systems Therapist, consultant, and trainer.  LaTonya also supports businesses who wish to develop programming to support the mental health of their teams. She is a Qualified Administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory ©. The Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) is a widely used and effective cross-culturally valid assessment for building cultural competence, where she focuses on supporting organizations to build supportive environments for their teams. LaTonya hopes that by truly fostering a space for authentic connection, bonding, and community-building, her practice can fill critical unmet needs in mental health.

What inspired you to start a business?

The inspiration for starting my business comes directly from my Mother and Grandmother who believed in concepts like interdependence, and interconnectedness. They were pillars in their community and strong advocates of mental health, equality, and community. They believed people should be loved and accepted for being unapologetically themselves. Through Collective Wellness, I am inspired to continue their legacy and my mission is to inspire a cultural shift that elevates the significance of mental health as a communal responsibility.

What goals do you hope the Elevate program will help you achieve?

One of my goals is to expand our physical location to create a community hub. I hope Elevate will help me to develop partnerships, and expand my network to further grow the business and establish a community fund.

I am looking forward to receiving support with business and marketing strategies that reflect my current needs and anticipated future growth.
