Rosie the Riveter Day at the Michigan Capitol

The community gathered at the Michigan State Capitol to honor women working in manufacturing and skilled trades, with several local Michigan original “Rosies” in attendance.

Attendees arrived in the Capitol Heritage Hall to put on their Rosie bandanas and hear presentations from original “Rosies” and the American Rosie the Riveter Association. LEAP partners such as Capital Area Michigan Works! (CAMW!), Michigan State University and Greater Lansing Convention & Visitors Bureau were in attendance to honor women in manufacturing. The celebration continued on the Capitol steps as we heard words from Capital Area Manufacturing Council, and title sponsor, PNC Bank. “It was lovely to celebrate with multiple generations, including the future of our talent pipeline.” said Cindy Kangas, Executive Director of Capital Area Manufacturing Council.

The event ended with reading names of WWII Rosies and Veterans Present along with a Rosie Drill Cheer and a historic Rosie photo along the Capitol steps.
